Ale - an Eldorado for outdoor enthusiasts
Flowering meadows, woods, steep rocky cliffs and the mighty Göta älv River help make Ale a very special place to live. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are endless possibilities. Anglers can try their luck in lakes and streams, while canoeists can enjoy the quiet of nature as they paddle the local waterways. Hikers can explore the countryside on prepared trails or set out on their own. And for relaxing in the summer sun, there are plenty of excellent beaches.
Meanwhile, the Risveden nature reserve, with its great tracts of old-growth forest, is a paradise for the nature-lover. Risveden’s rich flora and fauna--deer, elk and numerous other species abound--make this one of southern Sweden’s most popular woodlands.
In Ale, cultural traditions are important, too. At the glassblowing museum in Surte, for example, you can study the life and times of Alexander Samuelsson, a glassblower from Ale who designed the original Coca Cola bottle. An interesting local curiosity is Sweden’s last surviving full-length ropewalk, which once provided ropes and rigging for the great East India vessels that plied the route between Göteborg and the Far East.

"Do not disturb - do not destroy"
The right of public access requires consideration, responsibility and good judgement. We must not damage the landscape or animal life, and we must show consideration for both landowners and for others who are out in the countryside.
